Suppose you want to hunt down a bad guy. You might want to do some magic to give yourself a dog's sniffing ability. The magic works like this:
From Return of the Demon, a spirit magic kung fu movie written and directed by Huang Ying.
- first, cut off a tuft of a dog's fur,
- place it on your forehead,
- and wrap a magic undershirt around your torso
- with a red string.
- Have your assistant execute some shǒujué and some kung fu maneuvers
- and knock you in the chest with his palm.
- Then tie a magic undershirt around the dog as well, with your birth information on it,
- and have your assistant repeat the shǒujué and kung fu
- and knock the dog on the chest.
- In a bowl, mix your blood with the dog's.
- Give the dog a sip of the mixed blood,
- and then take a sip yourself.
- Burn Hell Money.
- Light a candle.
- Take two benches painted yellow and prepare a Magic Bridge.
- Spread dirt along the two benches.
- "The person must be crowned by a virgin boy"
- The assistant performs kung fu and shǒujué over an altar with candles
- then grabs rice in both hands and throws it simultaneously on you and the dog.
- He takes a yellow paper talisman in each hand and lights them at the candles.
- The assistant submerges his face in a water bowl on the altar, and speaks sacred syllables underwater.
- But what's this? Footprints appear in the dirt on the benches, the benches that form the Magic Bridge... a dog's footprints lead to the man, and a man's footprints lead to the dog.
- The assistant takes a mouthful of water and spews it on the dog. Jerry Alan Johnson has a description of this practice.
- The ritual is complete. You have gained some attributes of the dog. You need to avoid the full moon, though; in the light of the full moon, you'll become a mad dog. Your friends can stop this by taking the fur off your forehead. Though, if this movie is any indication, this might not be as easy as it sounds.
